Finding The Words

Without the right words, it can be incredibly difficult for individuals to express mental health struggles or ask for help. This free 2.5-hour seminar is my way of giving back—sharing the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over my career to support those who need it most. Specifically designed for charities, community organisations, and frontline support services, the session helps vulnerable adults develop the language and confidence to articulate their experiences and emotions more effectively.

Whether delivered in a refuge, prison, day centre, or any community-based setting, this seminar supports your service users by building emotional literacy, fostering connection, and promoting early intervention. It’s an inclusive, trauma-informed approach that aligns with values of empowerment, accessibility, and community wellbeing. My goal is to help reduce isolation, increase understanding, and improve access to appropriate support networks—all while strengthening the capacity of local services to respond compassionately and effectively to mental health challenges.

Finding the Words: Building Mental Health Language from A to Z

Free Seminar for Charities, Community Groups & Support Settings

This interactive, participation-based seminar is designed to equip individuals with the essential language needed to better understand and express their own mental health. Working through a practical A to Z of key terms, delegates will explore the meanings behind commonly used words and phrases, learning to distinguish, for example, between feeling anxious and feeling depressed, or between anger and resentment.

Drawing on over 20 years of teaching experience, I use a range of engaging strategies—including quizzes, games, and both small and large group discussions—to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment. The aim is to empower participants with the vocabulary and confidence to talk about their feelings and take meaningful steps towards seeking help when needed.

This free course is ideal for delivery in community settings such as refuges, prisons, day centres, or support groups, and is a practical way to promote emotional literacy, connection, and early access to mental health support.
