Matt Knibb Mental Health Training
Podcast

The MENtal Health Takeaways is a podcast that explores mental health in a down-to-earth, relatable way. Each episode dives into real conversations about wellbeing, struggles, and the small but meaningful things we can all do to take better care of ourselves and each other. Whether it’s sharing personal stories, talking to guests, or breaking down big topics into manageable takeaways, the aim is to make mental health feel less intimidating and more accessible. It’s all about honesty, connection, and reminding listeners that they’re not alone. Tune in for practical tips, thoughtful insights, and the occasional bit of humour—because mental health matters, and it’s okay to talk about it.

MENtal Health Takeaways is hosted by two long-time friends who share a deep interest in how people think, feel, and connect — especially when it comes to men’s mental health. I’m a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and workplace trainer with a background in sports psychology, and my co-host Brad Smith is a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and educator. We first met over 20 years ago while training to become PE teachers at the University of Exeter, and our friendship has grown alongside our evolving careers in mental health.

In early 2024, we decided to combine our knowledge and lived experience to create a podcast that felt more accessible and relatable to men. Our aim wasn’t to force new conversations, but to tap into the ones men are already having — and gently put mental health on the table as a normal, acceptable topic. Through honest chats, a good dose of humour, and real-world insight, we explore what mental wellbeing really looks like for everyday men.

Every fortnight, we’re joined by a guest who brings a fresh perspective on the issues impacting men’s mental health today. As a small, homemade podcast, every listen, five-star review, and follow truly means a lot. If you're curious, or just think hearing men talk openly about mental health might be a helpful part of your own self-care journey, we’d love for you to give us a listen.
